Vinny Golia - Woodwinds Vinny has been a featured performer with Anthony Braxton, Henry Grimes, John Carter, Bobby Bradford, Joelle Leandre, Leo Smith, Horace Tapscott, John Zorn, Tim Berne, Bertram Turetzky, George Lewis, Barre Phillips, The Rova Saxophone Quartet, Patti Smith, Harry "the Hipster" Gibson, Eugene Chadburne, Kevin Ayers, Peter Kowald, John Bergamo, George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band, Misha Mengelberg, Han Bennick, Lydia Lunch, Harry Sparrney and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra amongst many others.
Rick Helzer - Piano Rick Helzer is a professor of music and the Associate Director of the Jazz Studies Program at San Diego State University where he coordinates the undergraduate and graduate jazz theory programs and combos. His more recent recordings, Face in the Mirror and Fancy Meeting You Here (with woodwind artist Vinny Golia), Triptych Mirror (with the ARC Trio), and Friendship and Remembrance (with guitarist John Stowell) have already garnered laudatory reviews in Cadence, Signal to Noise, Jazz Improv, All About Jazz and One Final Note, to name a few. He has performed and/or recorded with George Lewis, Mark Dresser, James Newton, Vinny Golia, Kim Richmond, David Borgo, Peter Sprague and Charles McPherson. Over thirty of Rick's original compositions have been commercially recorded and UNC Jazz Press is the publisher of some of his small group and large jazz ensemble music. Rick also regularly contributed to Jazz Inside magazine, having published numerous solo transcriptions, annotations, record reviews and a regular column entitled Piano Perspectives, from 2001 through 2011.
Ellen Burr - Flutes a multifaceted musical career has won her praise in performance, improvisation and composition. Her graphic card game, Ink Bops, is included in Theresa Sauer's Notations 21. Burr appears on almost thirty recordings, including those with Vinny Golia, Adam Rudolph, Steuart Liebig, Brad Dutz, Harris Eisenstadt, Sara Schoenbeck, Jeanette Kangas, Andrew Pask. Burr has been a recipient of grants from the American Composers Forum and Meet the Composer. Burr is the founder/director of the multi-disciplinary improvisational group LA Collective. Ms. Burr holds a MFA from CalArts in composition, a BM from Wichita State in flute performance and a Certificat de Stage from Ecole International d'ete. In addition to her private teaching studio, Ellen is the flute instructor at CalArts this spring 2012 semester, and last year she was Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Theory/Composition at Wichita State University, KS. Ellen is a Yamaha Performing Artist.
Michael William Von Unruh - Bass Clarinet has performed with the Wichita Symphony (32 years) and a creative musician in the Wichita Area, as well as a wheat farmer in Sedgwick Kansas. He has performed for the International Clarinet Conference in Oklahoma City, composed and performed for the Clarinet Conference in Flagstaff Arizona and composed and performed for the Composers Inc. festival in San Francisco . He has performed at the Edge Fest in Ann Arbor MI. and is a frequent performer at KNOB fest in Wichita. Mike has played Jazz and improvisational music in the Wichita area with the Bodo Ensemble, 3M, and the Sterling Grey Trio. He is featured on two CD's with Oklahoma guitarist Max Ridgway and three CD's with the Bodo Ensemble. Free Improvisation is his primary focus.
